It all began with a need: where to find a partner that could provide comprehensive expertise and solutions for the digitalization and optimization of the entire order-delivery chain – all under one roof?
There were many software and technology companies on the market serving the manufacturing industry, but they were relatively small and each of them focused on some specific, narrow area. Thus, the solutions for the different steps of the order-delivery chain had to be purchased separately from different companies, making it hard to manage the big picture.
The industry had a genuine need for a profitability partner that would have the capabilities and resources to help companies boost their production and optimize the entire order-delivery chain from end to end: from sales and engineering to supply chain, manufacturing, logistics and product lifecycle services.
To respond to this need, Roima Intelligence Inc was born.
The motivation behind the creation of Roima was the desire to create a partner from whom the manufacturing industry could get everything they need – all under one roof.
In practice, the project was kicked off in 2014 when Roima Intelligence Inc was established.
The creation of Roima marked the beginning of a determined growth story. Since its foundation with only 30 employees and a revenue of three million euros, the company has grown at an immense rate: both the headcount and revenue have increased tenfold.
Today, Roima combines the solid expertise and time-tested software solutions of seven companies; the Finnish Delta-Enterprise, Done Software Solutions, Lean Forward, Lean System, Modultek and Logia Software as well as the Swedish Sprymer AB are now part of Roima.
Delta Enterprise Forms a Solid Foundation
Roima was created on the solid foundations of Oy Delta Enterprise Ltd, forming the roots of Roima’s MES business.
Established in 1989, Delta Enterprise focused on electrical and mechanical engineering and design. In the 1990s, the company’s started shift its focus to delivering automation (PLC&SCADA) services, which became the company’s primary business. In-depth automation and equipment integration know-how is still one of the major corner stones of Roima’s added value.
Later, the company also entered new business areas like industrial IT and machine vision solutions. The first tailor-made systems were soon followed by extensive MES solutions based on the commercial MES platforms. This started a new era for the company, and since those days, MES and machine vision solutions combined with consultation services have formed an essential part of the company’s business.
Year of Strong Expansion: Dialogos Team, Lean Forward and Done Software Solutions Join Roima
In 2015, Roima experienced tremendous growth, as three companies Dialogos Team, Lean Forward and Done Software Solutions – joined in.
Operations Management & Enterprise Resource Planning Business from Tieto
Roima’s offering was complemented with Lean System, an enterprise resource planning solution that has been the trusted solution of the industry already since the 1990s. Its foundations are in Dialogos-Team Oy, a company established in 1988 as a research spin-off of Helsinki University of Technology. The company launched the first version of Lean System production management system, which became a tool that covers the entire chain from the order to invoicing and from material needs to purchase invoice processes.
Through mergers and acquisitions, Lean System was moved under Tieto (TT-Tieto at that time) and dedicated as the only brand and product platform for the business. Lean System was positioned as a midsize enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for manufacturing and industrial service industries, and later on also as an operations management tool, with a special focus on manufacturing operations management and industrial service business.
Service Business from Lean Forward
Companies using Lean System had growing needs for additional services in the area of operations management, and to respond to those needs, a new company, Lean Forward Oy, was founded in 2005. They were able to offer the customers expertise in requirements specification, architecture and technology choices and functional design services as well as, of course, in successful implementation projects, too.
Due to the industrial background of Lean Forward consultants, the company has been able to offer Lean System users advanced services based on in-depth know-how, as well as expert, training and development services in operations management. From Roima, the customer can now get hands-on expertise in shop floor operations, sales and operation planning and order-to-delivery processes.
Intralogistics from Done Software Solutions
To complement its offering, Roima also needed an advanced intralogistics solution. Especially the Finnish FidaWare solution and the company Done Software Solutions sparked Roima’s interest.
The roots of this company based in the Finnish city of Seinäjoki extend all the way to the year 1978 and to Teknillinen Toimisto Esko Salo Ky, located in the city of Kauhajoki. Within just a few years from its foundation, Esko Salo expanded the company’s operations and started to deliver turnkey intralogistics solutions also to international customers. Over the span of its long history and before acquired by Roima, the company’s name and ownership changed more than once, and in 2010, the company was known by the name Done Software Solutions, with its offering focusing on the FidaWare product family.
Product Management and the Netherlands – Modultek Oy
In the summer of 2016, Roima obtained a new business area from Modultek Oy, a company established in 1989 and based in the Finnish city of Pori, as well as the company’s subsidiary in the Netherlands. Roimians received 40 new talented colleagues specialized in items, product data and information throughout the product lifecycle and data quality. A year after year, the company’s products were recognized as market-leading PDM/PLM solutions in Finland (user surveys by CAD/CAM Association of Finland CCY).
Product data is linked to many operations in a company’s order-delivery chain. With Modultek’s entry, Roima’s offering was expanded to also include the sharing of engineering and manufacturing data in industrial networks among principals and subcontractors – as that requires advanced product management.
Modultek was the first company in Finland whose experts were certified ISO 8000 Master Data Managers.
Roima Expands to Sweden
In the summer of 2018, we received many new colleagues from outside the borders of Finland, as we welcomed Sprymer AB to the growing Roima group. The name of this newest family member was named Roima Sverige, with offices in Västerås and Linköping. At the same time, the company’s board of directors and ownership was strengthened with Swedish know-how.
We got the leading Swedish manufacturing operations management solutions specialist and integrator, serving technology and food and beverage companies. In addition, the company’s know-how in artificial intelligence and machine learning complement Roima’s offering.
Holistic Logistics Solutions for the Customers
The year 2019 began in joyful spirits, as Logia Software Oy, a Finnish company specialized in supply chain management, joined Roima in January. We got to welcome nearly 50 talented professionals as our new colleagues and a great number of well-managed customer relationships with businesses that use Logia’s cloud technology.
Logia has a long history in logistics; the company’s journey began already in 1975.
In particular, the entry of Logia reinforces Roima’s logistics know-how; our customers can now get the solutions for the management of their entire supply chain from a single partner.
