Greetings from RoimaDay 2018!
On November 8, it was time for the biggest event of the Roima year: RoimaDay! Once again, the event gathered together over 300 participants, including our customers, partners and Roimians alike from Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands.
This year, the event was housed at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki. The day was kicked off by Roima’s CEO Jukka Ropponen and Sales and Consulting Director Tero Huuskola who wished everyone welcome to the event and to Roima Experience. Roima’s goal is no more or less than to save the industrial future of Europe, and we believe we can achieve that goal together with courageous forerunner companies – our own customers.
Energy boost by Elastinen!
It has already become a tradition that the first keynote speaker of our RoimaDay events comes from outside the industrial genre. This year, we had the pleasure and honor to meet Kimmo Laiho, also known by his artist name Elastinen. We heard the story of an energetic boy who grew into one of Finland’s best-known hip hop / rap musicians and into the young CEO of Rähinä Records, a record label that Kimmo founded together with his friends. Kimmo’s path has been characterized by open-mindedness, courage to embrace new things, self-discipline and the urge to follow his own visions. As it doesn’t really make sense to just toil away alone, along the journey, Kimmo has also networked with some of the best minds in the music industry. And it has to be said that Ela’s positive and respectful attitude towards people has certainly not stood in the way of success!
Company presentations from different industries
During the day, we also got to hear many interesting presentations from our customers from different industries.
The food and beverage industry is one of Roima’s areas of specialization; our experienced Industry Experts know the recipe for efficient production. The first customer speech in the main hall was given by one of the most traditional and sweetest brands in Finland: Fazer. We had the great pleasure the hear Juho Friberg, Fazer’s Head of Digital Transformation, who told us about the company’s digitalization program to which the Fazer mission “Food with a purpose” brings its own flavor.
Roima serves companies in various business development needs. When we help our customers boost their competitiveness, we want to look across organizational silos. A case in point is LapWall, who took the stage next. LapWall is a Finnish manufacturer of wooden elements and a forerunner in its field. LapWall uses Roima’s solutions in product and document management and in enterprise resource planning. We had the pleasure to welcome the company’s technical leader Kari Viljamaa and ERP project manager Jukka-Pekka Salo on stage. LapWall is seeking market leadership in Scandinavia, so the title of the presentation “Elements of growth and profitability” fit the company like a glove!
After lunch, it was time to take a look into the future. Roima’s Risto Raunio and Juha Burtsoff presented guidelines and trends that will affect the development needs of companies and according to which Roima will broaden its expertise. There is also a white paper underway, titled “Roima’s Statement of Future Direction”. We invite companies to join the dialogue!
Indentify, Boost, Create New
RoimaDay gathers together participants from a wide range of different business functions and roles. That is why RoimaDay includes a rich package of tracks from which each participant can select the presentations that are of most interest to them. This year, the presentations were divided into tracks “Identify”, “Boost” and “Create New”, in accordance with Roima’s value proposition. In addition, there was a fourth track presenting Roima’s latest product releases.

Aino Nenonen and Veronica Koverola from Snellman Kokkikartano, Juha Burtsoff from Roima, Aki Pönniö from Wipak
In the tracks, we got to hear from many different companies, such as Konecranes, Valio, Snellman & Kokkikartano, Wipak, Lappset, Synocus and Louhia Analytics. The topics of the presentations ranged from manufacturing digitalization to machine vision solutions, the digitalization and monitoring of in-house control data, production efficiency and continuous improvement, the utilization of commercial product information management in industrial online store solutions, the management of global expert projects, and the mapping of a company’s warehouse efficiency.
The program also featured two exciting panel discussions that attracted a lot of listeners; the first one on Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the second on the development of industrial service business.
After the tracks, it was time to return to the main hall. Last but not the least, the main hall stage was taken by our customer Wipak, a global supplier of efficient and sustainable packaging solutions. Wipak too is already well advanced on its own digitalization journey, with the goal of achieving better customer experience and enhancing its own operations. Consumers will soon get to experience some highly advanced new packaging solutions that are to come onto the market in near future, revealed Mika Palosuo, Group IT Director at Wipak.
The presentation part of the day ended the thanks of Jukka Ropponen – we are proud of our customers!
And that's not all!
After the main program, the evening continued with demos of Roima’s warehouse monitoring solution, product management cloud solution and the new release of Roima’s enterprise resource planning solution. In addition to Roima’s software, the guests had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the offering of our partner Beckhoff and the Quintiq solution of our partner Dassault Systemés.
During the evening, we got to enjoy a delicious buffet and excellent company. Many old acquaintances found each other, and new acquaintances were made. For the most energetic ones, the evening continued in Helsinki’s nightlife.
RoimaDay 2018 was a success. To our great joy, all those who provided feedback thought that the day was worth attending. This is a good starting point for us to begin to plan RoimaDay 2019!
