ROIMA ACADEMY
First ever Roima Academy BoF meeting gathered intralogistics professionals together
Roima Academy BoF (Birds of Feather) is a new forum that gathers together colleagues from different companies to discuss common interests. The central idea of the Roima Academy BoF meetings is to offer the professionals of the same field the opportunity to get together for an efficient afternoon to share ideas and experiences face to face and to get to know each other.
The Roima Academy BoF meetings are hosted each time by a different and interesting company whose operations the participants will have the chance to explore. The highlight of the day is a factory tour – during the tour, the good practices and processes of the host company become tangible in real life.
Intralogistics professionals opened the series of BoFs
The first birds of feather to get their own day were intralogistics professionals, who met at the beginning of May in Rajamäki in Southern Finland. The event was fully booked, drawing over 20 enthusiastic participants from different companies. The host of the day was Altia Oyj that uses Roima’s FidaWare WMS solution.
The day was kicked off with a keynote speech given by Petri Lindfors of Toyota Material Handling Finland. Lindfors shared ideas on how forklift automation enhances the productivity of intralogistics.
In addition to the keynote speech, the day also featured short presentations by Roima’s intralogistics professionals Petri Alestalo, Jani Säynäväjärvi and Arto Pellonpää. The topic that especially sparked discussion was monitoring, as it is a relatively new concept in the area of intralogistics. Efficient monitoring offers relevant and real-time data to the shop floor in an easily understandable, visual form (dashboard). Monitoring can also be called management by knowledge, summarized Arto Pellonpää.
All is well in Altia’s intralogistics!
A much-awaited program number was the presentation of the host company Altia, and the waiting was indeed well awarded! The company’s logistics operations have been fine-tuned into excellent shape, one indication of which is the “Intralogistics Company of the Year” prize awarded to Altia by the Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics LOGY in 2016. The investments Altia has made in its warehouse operations have definitely paid off – the figures presented by Altia’s Pekka Molarius on more efficient use of space, reduction of overtime work and enhanced warehouse efficiency were truly impressive.
As a whole, the event received positive feedback. The participants were especially delighted about the factory tour and the discussion that followed, giving the professionals the opportunity to share good practices. In addition, the chance to get to know new colleagues and the genuine feeling of openness at the event received praise.
Roima Academy: Intralogistics BoF welcomes all professionals who want to invest in efficient intralogistics and warehouse management in their company. The time and place of the next meeting will be specified at a later date, but if you are interested in participating, please feel free to ask for further information already! Please note that the language of the meetings is Finnish.
