The third Roima Golf Open championship was held on a sunny Thursday, 23 August. Place of the venue was the Hill Side Golf in Vihti, and its challenging but beautiful and well-maintained Valley Course.
As last year, the weather was pleasant, only with a slight gusts of headwind at times. The non-handicap stroke play championship and Stableford competition with handicap allowance were contested among six players. This time the winner took it all – the victory of both divisions went to Merja Kivi with a Stableford score of 37 points and a gross score of 91.

In addition to these, the event host Jari Savolainen had organized two extra competitions: the longest drive and the closest pin. Of these, the longest drive was won by Merja on fairway 2 (the only hit on this fairway). The prize of closest to the pin will be awarded next year, since all competitors were carefully saving the green, and avoided to touch the grass on fairway 8.
Luckily some birdies were also hit, so the golfers got enough hydration during the competition.
Congratulations, Merja! Next years’ tournament will most likely be held in Hämeenlinna – the advance registration is now open.
