The motivation behind the creation of Roima was the desire to create a partner from whom the manufacturing industry could get everything they need –
The project was launched in earnest in 2014. The Finnish private equity firm Korona Invest had surveyed the needs of the manufacturing industry and decided that it was time to respond to the cries and create such a partner for the industry. To serve as the solid foundation of the new profitability partner, Korona acquired Oy Delta-Enterprise Ltd, a Finnish company specialized in optimization, and after rebranding, the company got a new name: Roima Intelligence Inc.
The creation of Roima marked the beginning of a determined growth story. Since its foundation with only 30 employees and a revenue of three million euros, the company has grown at an immense rate. In just five years, both the headcount and revenue have increased almost tenfold. In 2018, Roima got a new majority owner, Intera Partners, which together with Roima’s other owners – management and key personnel – is steadily steering Roima towards ever more global markets.
Now, in 2019, Roima combines the solid expertise and time-tested software solutions of seven companies; the Finnish Delta-Enterprise, Done Software Solutions, Lean Forward, Lean System, Modultek and Logia Software as well as the Swedish Sprymer AB are now part of Roima.
– Delta Enterprise forms a solid foundation –Roima was created on the solid foundations of Oy Delta Enterprise Ltd, forming the roots of Roima’s MES business.
Established in 1989, Delta Enterprise focused on electrical and mechanical engineering and design. In the 1990s, the company started to shift its focus to the delivery of automation (PLC&SCADA) services, which became the company’s primary business. In-depth automation and equipment integration know-how is still one of the major corner stones of Roima’s added value.
Later on, the company also entered new business areas like industrial IT and machine vision solutions. The first tailor-made systems were soon followed by extensive MES solutions based on commercial MES platforms. This started a new era for the company, and since those days, MES and machine vision solutions combined with consultation services have formed an essential part of its and now Roima’s business.
Roima combines the experience of a forty-year-old and the openness and curiosity of a five-year-old.
– Year of strong expansion:In 2015, Roima grew tremendously, as three great companies – Dialogos Team, Lean Forward and Done Software Solutions – joined in.
Dialogos Team, Lean Forward and Done Logistics join Roima –
Operations management from Tieto
That year, Roima’s offering was complemented with Lean System, an enterprise resource planning solution trusted by the industry already since the 1990s. Its foundations are in Dialogos-Team Oy, a company established in 1988 as a research spin-off of Helsinki University of Technology. Dialogos-Team launched the first version of Lean System production management system, which became a tool that covers the entire chain from orders to invoicing and from material needs to purchase invoice processes.
Through mergers and acquisitions, Lean System was moved under Tieto (TT-Tieto at that time) and dedicated as the only brand and product platform for the business. Lean System was positioned as a midsize enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for manufacturing and industrial service industries and, later on, also as an operations management tool, with a special focus on manufacturing operations management and industrial service business.
Service business from Lean Forward
Companies using Lean System had growing needs for additional services in the area of operations management. To respond to those needs, a new company, Lean Forward Oy, was founded in 2005. This company offered its customers expertise in requirements specification, architecture and technology choices, functional design services and, naturally, in successful implementation projects as well.
Due to the industrial background of Lean Forward consultants, the company has been able to offer Lean System users advanced services based on in-depth know-how, as well as expert, training and development services in the area of operations management. From Roima, the customer can now get hands-on expertise in shop floor operations, sales and operation planning, and order-to-delivery processes.
Intralogistics from Done Software Solutions
To achieve its goals, Roima also needed an advanced intralogistics solution to complement its offering. Especially the Finnish FidaWare product and the company Done Software Solutions based in the Finnish city of Seinäjoki sparked Roima’s interest. The roots of the company go back to the year 1978 and to the company Teknillinen Toimisto Esko Salo Ky, established by Esko Salo and at that time located in the city of Kauhajoki. Within just a few years from its foundation, Esko Salo expanded the company’s operations and started to deliver turnkey intralogistics solutions also to international customers.
Over the span of its long history, the company’s name and ownership changed more than once, an at the time when Roima found the company, it was known by the name Done Software Solutions, with its offering focusing on the FidaWare product family.
– Product management and the Netherlands – Modultek Oy –In the summer of 2016, Roima expanded to a new business area with the entry of Modultek Oy, a Finnish company specialized in product management. First established in 1989, Modultek was based in the Finnish city of Pori and had a subsidiary in the Netherlands.
That happy day, Roimians received 40 new talented colleagues specialized in the management of items, product data and product information throughout the product lifecycle, and data quality. Year after year, the company’s products have been recognized as market-leading PDM/PLM solutions in Finland (user surveys by CAD/CAM Association of Finland CCY). Modultek was the first company in Finland whose experts were certified ISO 8000 Master Data Managers.
Product data is closely linked to many operations in a company’s order-to-delivery chain. With Modultek’s entry, Roima’s offering was expanded to also include the sharing of engineering and manufacturing data in industrial networks among principals and subcontractors – as that requires advanced product management.
– Roima expands to Sweden –In the summer of 2017, we had the extreme pleasure of welcoming many new amazing colleagues from outside the borders of Finland, as the Swedish Sprymer AB joined the growing Roima family.
With offices in Västerås and Linköping, Sprymer is the leading Swedish manufacturing operations management solutions specialist and integrator, serving companies in technology and food and beverage industries. In addition, the company’s know-how in artificial intelligence and machine learning complement Roima’s offering in a great way.
The newest member of our family was given the name Roima Sverige AB. At the same time, Roima’s Board of Directors and ownership was strengthened with Swedish know-how.
– Holistic logistics solutions for the customer –The year 2019 began in joyful spirits, as Logia Software Oy, a Finnish company specialized in supply chain management, joined Roima in January. We got to welcome nearly 50 talented professionals as our new colleagues, and a great number of well-managed customer relationships with businesses using Logia’s cloud technology.
Logia has a long history in logistics; the company’s journey began already in 1975, under the Finnish Post and Telegram (Posti- ja lennätinlaitos) of that time.
In particular, the entry of Logia reinforces Roima’s logistics know-how; our customers can now get the solutions for the management of their entire supply chain all under one roof.
Roima growth story continues
